Did I Get It Right?

Often, we are wanting to find the “right” way to make a decision. The desire to get it right fulfills an internal need to not be at fault or have guilt with seeing an outcome being beneficial for ourselves.

And there is nothing wrong with this desire. To lead well and live well to avoid pain and discomfort is a natural human pursuit.
However, the pursuit of this desire can also be crippling. To be sure we get everything “right” leaves no room for the human condition of being flawed. We are not perfect. Leaders are not going to get every decision right, and in fact when we do not make a right decision we can learn a lot from the pain, discomfort or inconveniences caused.

What if the shift was made from trying to get a decision “right” to making a wise decision?

Wisdom: the quality of having experience, knowledge, and good judgement

If our pursuit was taking the experiences we’ve had, the information and the knowledge we are aware of and make a wise decision, could we release some internal chaos from ourselves?

If pursuing wisdom allows us to learn as we grow and continue to gain knowledge, even from the hard and uncomfortable moments, we may lead from a place of healthy tension instead of constant internal conflict.
